Spider Pack: An invaluable tool for thieves, housebreakers, and tomb raiders, the spider pack appears to be an ordinary black leather backpack. However, it’s interior is carved with mystic runes and circles, and eight straight lines protrude from its center. The pack is best worn over any clothing, for when the command word is spoken, the pack instantly sprouts eight black, hairy spider legs of a size that approximately matches those of the wearer. The legs tear through any clothing or armor, no matter the material, to reach full extension.
The legs function as directed by the wearer of the spider pack, allowing the wearer to climb walls and ceilings with ease (movement rate 20-ft), just as a spider would, though the wearer’s hands and feet are left free and are not needed to climb. The wearer can be pulled from the wall or ceiling, though this requires a strength score of 25 to do so. While activated, the pack also grants the wearer immunity to entrapment by web spells or webs of any sort and the wearer can actually move through these areas with ease (movement rate 20-ft).
The spider legs are not suitable for attacking and cannot be used to do so, though if used during a grapple, they grant the wearer a +16 circumstance bonus on all grapple checks. When used to initiate a grapple, and the wearer does not use his own hands, the circumstance bonus drops to +8, though this tactic allows the wearer full use of his hands during the grapple. For the purposes of initiating a grapple, the spider legs use the base melee attack bonus of the wearer.
The spider pack can be used for a total of 50 minutes per day when activated. This duration need not be continuous. If a leg is destroyed (AC 15, 15 hit points), another from the pack instantly replaces it. The spider pack does not take up a worn item slot, though it cannot be worn with another backpack.
