Magic Wpn question Staggering Weapon?

Darklurch

First Post
Weapon: Axe, Flail, Hammer, Heavy Blade, Mace
Enhancement: Attack rolls and damage rolls
Critical: +1d6 damage per plus, and the target is knocked
prone.
Property: When you use a power with the weapon
keyword that slides a target, you can add this weapon’s
enhancement bonus to the number of squares the target
slides.
Power (Daily): Free Action. Use this power when you hit
with the weapon. Slide the target a number of squares
equal to the weapon’s enhancement bonus.

Does this work with fighter at will powers, that you have to do with shields for example.

Tide of Iron Fighter Attack 1
After each mighty swing, you bring your shield to bear and use it
to push your enemy back.
At-Will ✦ Martial,Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Requirement: You must be using a shield.
Target: One creature
Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage, and you push the
target 1 square if it is your size, smaller than you, or one
size category larger. You can shift into the space that the
target occupied.
Increase damage to 2[W] + Strength modifier at 21st level.

I see the keyword weapon but it still your using ur shield and not ur sword for this power.

Weapon keyword is there = /endthread

No matter how much sense it makes, this is pretty cut and dry.

I for one actually think this makes sense, because of the flavor "After each mighty swing, you bring your shield o bear and use it" You are using both your weapon and your shield.

You're right about the weapon keyword being there, but wrong about the /endthread. Tide of Iron pushes the target, it does not slide the target (which is what the weapon modifies). So no, Tide of Iron will not trigger the property, although you can use the Daily power associated with the Staggering Weapon.

While I'm sure that someone will suggest Footwork Lure here as an alternative, there's one potential issue with that. It says that you slide the target into the square that you just vacated. Since you can't use it from say, 3 squares away (normally) then adding to the slide won't help you. Now, if you have a DM that allows things to increase your reach to let you slide the target the full distance anyway, or that doesn't care about you taking the direct route (thus allowing you to say, slide the target 4 squares into a Wall of Fire and still end in the square you vacated) then it would work. As far as RAW is concerned, it's iffy though.

While you are correct that it is a slide and not a push, and I was incorrect that it applies to tide of iron. Nowhere in footwork lure's text does it say you have to put it immediately into the square you just vacated, it just has to end up there. So if you could slide someone into a wall and then put them into your previously occupied square.

Like I said, it's iffy. Perhaps I should clarify though, as my original comment might have been a little non-specific: by "iffy", I mean "you need to ask your DM". Some DM's don't like the kind of cheese that comes out of things like that, and ban it. Some DM's are fine with it. It just depends.

Personally though, I would forget about Footwork Lure and stick with Tide of Iron and something else (Cleave, Brash Strike and Crushing Blow are all better than a second movement power IMO). Tide of Iron allows you to push the enemy backwards and advance the line, whereas Footwork Lure usually results in something resembling a pull (meaning: you're typically pulling the enemy away from his allies and towards your line, rather than advancing).

Guardian Fighters are defensive by nature, and should therefore concentrate on moving the enemy back and taking more hits, rather than culling out enemies and separating them from allies...that's more of a striker thing to do. Which is why Avengers like doing that, and why Footwork Lure is usually better in the hands of a Greatweapon Fighter that can kill the enemy he just dragged back into his own lines. That's just my opinion though, the OP should make his decision based on whatever suits his play style the best.

Where does Tide of Iron say anything about not using your weapon? It has the weapon keyword. It deals weapon damage. Yes, you have to be wearing a shield, but at no point does the power say anything about using your shield as a weapon.
