Making a more "Avenger-Like" striker companion character

Well, I like Companion character rule in DMG 2 much. It really helps when we don't have enough number of players, or when some NPC (I am using this word as not as the strict rule term for 4e here) co-operate with PCs for some reasons.

It especially working well for our "come when you can attend" monthly game sessions.

But now, a player who is playing a 2nd-level avenger in Keep on the Shadwfell has e-mailed me that she cannot attend the game in the next Sunday. As this is a part of campaign and the party is in the middle of a dungeon, I do not want to suddenly make that avenger "disappear" and let a striker companion character "appear from nowhere".

So now, I am thinking of making a "Companion Character Version" of the said avenger. As simple as a usual companion character but who functions somewhat similar to the said avenger PC.

The usual Striker Companion Character's feature is,

"Once per round, a striker deals 1d6 extra damage when he hits an enemy he has combat advantage against. This extra damage increases to 2d6 at 11th level and 3d6 at 21st level."

Now I am thinking of replacing it to a simplified version of Oath of Enmity,

"When you make a melee attack against the target and the target is the only enemy adjacent to you, you make two attack rolls and use either result."

Do you think it will work? Too strong? Too weak? Or are there better way to make an Avenger-Like striker companion?
