D&D 5E (2024) Martials and Magic. Two Years of Testing.

There are more than just those two options.

I think relatively few people play high level because life gets in the way. College groups split up. An adult or two in the group moves. The DM gets a new job and can't run any longer. Yada yada.

Certainly the minimal content in 5e is problematic on top of that, but I don't think it's the cause.

5Es not doing much worse than any other edition for high level content. A few APs go beyond 10th.

Dungeon magazine might be an exception.

I own 500-1000 odd adventures (mostly pdfs and Dungeon) alot in anthologies or Dungeon.

3.5 and Pathfinder were probably eating comparatively well with the APs and BECMI had almost 20 lvl 15+.

Ironically 3.x might have the best adventure range but converted to other editions. I'm still mining them and so have the 5E anthologies.

Bought one recently 1-2 years estimate to complete shackled city.

Think Paizos reduced the high level content and alot sold apparently isn't completed. They still had 1000+ odd hard core customers who subscribed since Dragon/Dungeon iirc.

The contents been made. Its out there but it seems real life is the problem. The older BECMI ones seem to be domain play.

That could be your problem. If you're using information from reddit...
It largely matches what Mearls is saying and Beyond data.

Most of the major youtubers who do class reviews are saying most campaigns wont go much last 10.

They mention if a lvl 17 feature is good or not but we cant really count it.

It's MUCH worse than 3e/3.5e was. Adventures =/= content. They are a part of content, but so are all the books with tons of high level monsters, feats, spells, treasures, etc. DMs had to do it themselves for the most part, but it was very much supported.

5e on the other hand has very little support. I'm playing a 17th level 5e cleric at the moment and I have almost no selection of spells past 6th level to pick from. I have 4, count them, 4 9th level spells to pick from, and 3 of them are highly situational. In 3.5e there are 36 9th level cleric spells to pick from.

Ah I was talking about adventures not phb. High level cleric list is lacking. Plus side is upcasting lower ones. Conjure celestial is better than most of your 8th lvl spells.

3.X probably had more high level content than any other edition.

Plus in 5.0e there were very few monsters to interact with at high level. You have to spam much weaker monsters.

MM yes theres a few in supplements.

Alot of MM are like that tbf. MM2 or fiend folio or equivalent usually has more for higher levels. 5E didn't have a 1st party MM2 equivalent. Mordenkainens kinda but more of a compilation and it came late.

No there really isn't much choice with higher level encounters other than zero rushing trash. The math had too many bad assumptions and too many of them were largely designed to evade gm control
