I watched this movie recently (2026) release. If you like Fantasy Movies or 80s throwback movies, or just like a movie made by people who enjoy the property the movie is based on...this is a movie to see.

They obviously cared about the original series as well as other things connected to the franchise.

1. I love the Soundtrack. The Soundtrack is...just about...perfection.

2. I love almost everything about the movie...except the writing. The basics are fine, but for me, the jokes and things such as that didn't do it as much for me.

3. People rave about how good Leto is as Skeletor, and he does as well as he can with what he is given...but Skeletor to me...his writing was excessively cringy. I know some of the stuff from the 80s cartoon is cringe to some, but this was just overboard. To me, those lines were actually the weakest part of the movie. Much of what I see on the internet disagrees with me.

Now some spoilers...so if you didn't notice the thread warning, this is your warning here.

1. I love that Adam wears a pink Shirt.

2. They didn't forget Internet memes.

3. Dolph Lundgren does a semi-4th wall breaking appearance...and I loved it.

4. The second end credits scene (there are 3 end movie scenes after the movie proper ends) is great. I hope they make a sequel (but if predictions are correct about expected box office, this movie will flop) hints at sequel that I'd LOVE to see.

5. I won't go much further into spoilers until others have seen it...but yes...I'd watch it again.

Yes, I'd say it's a fair comparison.

An even better comparison is probably the D&D movie in relation to D&D with this movie in relation to Masters of the Universe.

Similar type of energy and fan usage.

I think this is accurate for me at least in the "fun" marvel movies (up to Age of Ultron?) after that the Marvel movies (like star wars) is taking itself WAY to seriously.

This did not.

I was not much of a he-man fan growing up, but so far this is my favorite movie this year. I figure Supergirl will easily push it out of the way, and I found the humor here very good, and not cringy at all.

In fact, in respect to Leto. The cringy, for me, highlighted the villiany.

Excellent movie from someone who was expecting something worse than what he expected Mando and Grogu to be.

I just got back from the movie and really enjoyed it, but the most glaring flaw to me, far and away, was the Skeletor humor just didn't land. Tonally way off the mark most of the time. And it was a reasonably robust crowd of people in the theater with me, whom I also didn't hear laughing at Skeletor bits. I get that in the original cartoon Skeletor was pretty goofy, but it just didn't translate to a movie that needed to have stakes. Or maybe the comedy bits just needed to be funnier.

I mean I did think the general Skeletor vibe of over-the-top cackling scene-chewing-thespian villainy was amusing, but everywhere where there was supposed to be an outright joke, everytime they did shtick, it just fell flat (Alison Brie got a chuckle or two out of me in those bits, but that's just a testiment to her comedy chops).

And indeed, I'd say the movie was much better at comedy when it just played up the riduculousness of various characters and situations than when it went for "comedic interludes".

Generally the writing was pretty hit and miss on the details. I agree the basics were fine, in fact there were even some genuinely clever ideas, but in addition to jokes that don't land there's a lot of "I guess we need some filler lines here" dialogue. But then again, it has four credited screenwriters, which usually means a screenplay that had a troubled history.

Yep, that was my thought too. I wasn't expecting nor did I want an overly serious dramatic movie, but the humor got old for me really quickly. The one thing I thought was funny was He-Man murder hoboing people. Overall, my opinion of it is neutral, I didn't particularly like it but didn't hate it either. The one thing that did impress me was costume designs were very accurate to the toy line and cartoon. This is not always the case when a movie is adapted from other media, there is usually some weird deviation from the source material, which is what the 1987 movie did.

I'd imagine that the movie has a very niche audience and most people that wanted to see it have already seen it. So I doubt it will do a whole lot at the box office in the next few weeks.
