My god, that film was glorious. We just saw it. Easily the most fun I’ve had in a cinema this year. Cheesey in all the correct Flash Gordon ways, lots of knowing jokes for the grownups, just such gorgeous fun all the way through.

Folks on here liked Mando and dislike this. I disliked Mando and loved this. Because this to me is all the things they said Mando was but wasn’t. Weird!

But anyway. Film of the year so far. Roll on a Supergirl!

I felt this exact way about The Furious, not MOTU Differing opinions like this are always so interesting.

So yea, average Marvel movie of typical 2026 Hollywood's "Message(s)".

So much CGI spam. Cringer = CGI Cringe, wow. Eterena= Asguard

As expected, having Adam on Earth was a huge waste of time. Oh, look Adam is an HR looser...wow exciting.

Adam spends 3/4ths of the movie as a weak, bumbling, helpless male of the type Hollywood loves

And sadly the do the trope of "The only way to show a woman is tough is if she knocks down/over shadows the man". Can just make a woman tough....

The idea is something like Adam is a emotionally aware Beta cool feminist guy who learns the old "please don't think I'm weak, I did not turn the other cheek, but Sometimes you Gotta Fight When your a MAN!" But that story just gets lost in all the CGI and randomness.

Roberta- So guess the felt they need one more woman hero? Guess every such movie needs a K2SO, Groot, or Corg?

Skeletor was good

There were plenty of nods, call backs and such to the older Masters of the Universe. Good Journey!

Went to see it with a friend who is into the Transformers film so low-brow was going to be fine. It was fun; camp as hell. I loved how, when Skeletor started chewing the scenery with all his monologging, his minions started giving each other the WTF side eye.

I thought about seeing it, then noticed Jared Leto is Skeletor.
Hard Pass.

Mark Kermode’s take was that this was the only ‘Jared Leto proof’ movie as you can’t tell it’s him by looking at the character or by listening to the character.

I'll have to check out Kermode's review, always appreciate him as one of the few film reviewers that actually knows how to talk about film.

And yeah, he's right that it's easy to not notice Leto in the film, I almost didn't realise it myself.

Lol you're actually bemoaning the fact that an animated green tiger was protrayed by an animated green tiger? um

and yes Eternia and Asgard are both suppose to be Sword and Planet Pulp inspired by Flash Gordon, so you recognising the similarity means the designers succeeded

You may be right that the randomness and injokes and easter eggs might have overshadowed the story for anyone without prior knowledge, but its not as if He-Man is suppose to be great literature either.

Admittedly I was surprised when Roboto was coded 'female' in this too, and a lot more comic relief than is traditional. But it didnt detract too much.

I was more surprised that they included Fisto, until they made it clear that he and Ram-Man were primarily there for the cheap jokes. At least Ram-Man was a regular in the cartoons.

Skeletor was good

I guess the fact that Roberta is a regular female name had something to do with it.

I would say the difference is in the cartoon Adam was simply the “Clark Kent secret identity”. I pretend to be this fop to hide I’m really an utter badass.

But in the movie, that IS the character. Even when he transformed, the character was still Adam not He-man.

That's because the movie is an origin story. We never saw the origin story in the OG series to learn how Adam growing up and learning to be He-Man played out, but ostensibly there was a transition period like we saw in the move.

The scared and non-confrontational version of Adam is more or less in line with the flashbacks we saw of Adam as a young child in the OG series. The episode "Battlecat" has a scene that is reminiscent of the training scene we get at the beginning of the movie (focusing more on Cringer's origin).
