That's because the movie is an origin story. We never saw the origin story in the OG series to learn how Adam growing up and learning to be He-Man played out, but ostensibly there was a transition period like we saw in the move.

That's possible. I think ultimately the problem with it in the movie is....it didn't lead to anything.

Ok so Adam is this touchy feely guy, and the movie wants to suggest that this is a strength of his. The sorceress even goes to mention this, "I chose you for your heart, your empathy, your humanity".

But....we never actually see that play out. We see him do one really awkward speech to rally his troops (which doesn't showcase any of Adam's empathy or humanity, its just a dumb terrible speech). He tries to talk his villains down and descalate things....which never works so he just has to start punching to solve his problem. We never see Adam make a "heroic sacrifice" to save his friends, again putting humanity first.

The movie seems to be going with the message that "Adam was always good enough as he was". But we never actually see that in the movie. At the end of the day, he gets the power....and beats up the bad guys. And I want to be clear, I have 0 issue with that. Its a damn He-man movie for pete's sake!!! But the movie spends a lot of time showing us the bumbling Adam, then tries to message it as "that's actually a strength"...but then we get no payoff.

If the movie's message had instead been "its ok to try and turn the other cheek, but at a certain point a man has to shut up and kick some butt to defeat evil". Now I respect that is not a message everyone agrees with in this day and age, but its a message much more in line with what we saw in the movie, it would have been much more tonally consistent.

If we ignore the message of the sorceress (which we only saw in his "dream") I felt it was just jokes about how HR methods are just useless ans as this it worked.


SO like a joke about making the "good message" but in reality this measage does not really work.

A poorly done animated tiger like CGI blob, yes.

and yes Eternia and Asgard are both suppose to be Sword and Planet Pulp inspired by Flash Gordon, so you recognising the similarity means the designers succeeded

Except it looks like they just copied Marvels Asgard. They did not even try for the weird sci fi fantasy vibe.

No? Not in the 80's Flimmation one. Adam was 100% a cool tough guy who was pretending to be a silly prince.

Again Teela in the 80's was already that to Adam

Maybe your thinking of the newer cartoons?

You may be right that the randomness and injokes and easter eggs might have overshadowed the story for anyone without prior knowledge, but its not as if He-Man is suppose to be great literature either.

I liked them, but then they were made for guys like me. I'm sure most people missed them.

I was more surprised that they included Fisto, until they made it clear that he and Ram-Man were primarily there for the cheap jokes. At least Ram-Man was a regular in the cartoons.

I guess Fisto was just easy on the CGI?

I just finished watching this movie and as a fan of the cartoon as a kid, I give this movie 5/5, amazing movie, with excellent pacing, action, comedy, a great sound track, and I can't wait for She-Ra.
