Ripped off my re-revised sorcerer, here's an idea of a new metamagic feat:
Spell Merging
Requirements: One other metamagic feat.
Benefit: When preparing (if you prepare spells) or when casting (if you cast spells spontaneously) you can use multiple lower level spell slots instead of single higher level ones. At the time, the spell slot is used (prepared or expended) you can use up two or more lower level spell slots, as long as the sum of the spell slot levels at least equals the modified spell level. 0th level spell slots count as one-half spell level for this purpose. Spell slots gained directly from magic items cannot be used in conjunction with this feat. Using this feat increases the spell level of any spell it is applied to by one.
An extremely powerful ability for sure, granting spellcasters some of the flexibility of the psionic power point system, without altering the way the spell system works. So it's basically an alternative to a spell point system in disguise of a metamagic feat.
Bye
