Miniatures and Figurines

Eunstoppable

First Post
So I've recently started to play DND with several friends and we dont have enough miniatures to create an accurate scene with the grids, tiles, etc. We have several random miniatures from boosters but we dont have like, say, 5 goblins we can put on the grid/tile.

What do you use a placeholder for the miniatures?

random change or spare ugly dice make great counters.

Also you can print out a page full of common miniatures on paper or cardstock if you want that authentic look.

I dont fully understand the printing part...what do you mean? Just print out a copy of the figurine and place it on the square or what?

You know, if the encounter calls for 5 goblins, you don't need to have 5 goblins. You can always just use any 5 small or medium humanoid creatures. Hell, you could use just about any other creature as well, but placing a gargantuan dragon on the board and saying: "that's just a goblin" might attract a few laughs. Of course, a good laugh is nothing to be sneered at, so I might actually just do that one of these days.

Cheers

Clearly, the problem here is that you just aren't buying enough of the plasticrack random boosters

But if you do need extra tokens to use, I'd also recommend just printing out pictures of the relevant minis to make up the numbers. The online gallery is very useful for this purpose.

Well, being a total D&D junkie, lol, I buy a "Booster case" of 12 packs of minis when they are out, then, buy others off Ebay.

currently I have plastic boxes filled with "drow", "goblins", "kobolds" etc, each figure has a number marked on it's base ot help me as DM track it's hit points etc.

as folk say, just use a mini that's close in size/style to what you need, no worries. :)

The M&M idea is a damne good one, lol! ;)
