First Post
I posted a simliar thread in Rules about possible changes in 3.5 but I wanted to come here and ask, how many if any of you have house-ruled the alignment restrictions for Monks and /or paladins?
Also relatedly how many have done away with there multiclass resitrction?

I haven't changed the alignment restrictions at all.

I do use the multi-classing options for monks and paladins presented in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. (Different orders can multi-class with specific classes.)

I remove the Monk restrictions.
Monks require discipline, but that is only one part of Lawful alignment. They don't require respect for authority or the other aspects of Lawfulness.
I can think of several characters from books and comics that would be monks and not lawful.
Paladins still have to be Lawful Good, but may multiclass.

Geoff.

I think the Lawful Good restriction on Paladins while understandable is ultimately regrettable. It keeps many deities from having their own "Shinning Sword" and pigeon holes a class that can be very difficult to play. It's why we see things like a Holy Liberator class that really shouldn't be necessary. The primary focus of a paladin character is that of a charismatic warrior with a deep connection to his god with the former being less important.

I think the lawful restriction for monks is not really that big a deal and just keeps us from having tons of monk/barbarians running around (and really this is something better handled by a PrC i.e. Drunken Master).

As for the multiclass restrictions, they are ludicrous and should be removed.

I agree wholeheartdly. I've never understood the paladin deal in the slightest...he's a holy warrior whats Law got to do with that? And the only "lawful" trait monks have as part of there class is the disicpline/self mastery thing...which in the case of the monk and in the strange law/chaos alignment portion of DnD could just as easily be a chaotic trait(extreme self focus)

If you're taking out the lawful from the paladin, take out the good as well. Make the class a Holy Champion with abilities based on a dominant alignment descriptor.

The whole style of paladin is a holdover. Even its role in the game is one. You could create such a character perfectly well with a Ftr/Cleric combo.
