Back in 2022, Monolith Games regained the license to the Conan board game and RPG after Modiphius Entertainment dropped their Conan lines (see "Modiphius to End 'Robert E. Howard's Conan'"). Monolith had announced plans to revive the board game after regaining the license; the board game had previously yielded $3.3 million on Kickstarter in 2015 (see "Kickstarter"). Fans will be able to order both the new Conan board game and the new edition of the RPG from this campaign; both will feature new content.

The Kickstarter campaign will also offer up reprints of older board game and RPG content, chosen by a fan community vote. More information about this campaign will become available closer to the launch date.

It looks to me like the Modiphius board game is getting a re-release. It says there will be a "new edition" of the rpg, and in a ttrpg context those words more often mean "whole new game" than "update of existing game", and given that the Modiphius game was in their in-house proprietary 2d20 system it seems unlikely that Monolith is releasing it. The distinct name of the Modiphius ttrpg (Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of) is not used in the promotional imagery.

But I hope I'm wrong. I'm probably never going to play 2d20 Conan, but it was disappeared from even digital sale when the license ended, and that seems deeply unfair to the people who wrote it, as well as anyone who enjoyed it. It would be cool if it was at least available in some form.

The link talks about reprinting Modiphius supplements. But yeah, it's confusing.

I've got a ton of Modiphius Conan books because there was a fire sale on them a few years back. I've never played it, and the rules are poorly organized, but it seems like a lot of fun. Honestly, I've grown a little dissatisfied with the 2d20 for action oriented games. I'd rather use Savage Worlds for Conan.

Conan is interesting as an IP, I seem to recall the rights being somewhat complex with parts being in the public domain now?

GURPS Conan is still available from SJG so there is some kind of non-exclusive element to the IP.

The article's wording is misleading. None of the Modiphius products are listed in the KS reprint survey. I double checked in Monolith's website, and all products up for reprint are from their own boardgames and their own RPG, not Modiphius'. 2d20 Conan is dead, dead!
