They are some great sourcebooks, but yeah. Modiphius’ house system, especially as implemented for Conan, was just a wildly over-complicated slog. Savage Worlds is perfect for the kind of pulp action you see in Conan stories.
To each their own. But other than the trappings of cults, snakes, and art, there’s nothing mechanically about DCC that would give you a Conan-esque story. Maybe if it’s the story of the nameless mook Conan slaughters without a thought. Conan would be what, all 18-20s on his stats, 10th-level thief and 10th-level warrior, half the lucky signs, etc. The implied gonzo pulp setting, sure. The actual mechanics, no.
Besides, there’s still the moral problem of supporting Goodman now that he’s working with Bledsaw again. But then that tracks with the more racist elements of Robert E. Howard’s Conan stories.
