Movie vs. Trailer: 13th Warrior, ROTK

First Post
I was just thinking of the difference between movies and trailers.

The 13th Warrior is a very good fantasy/medieval movie, but its trailer is pretty bad. After seeing the trailer, I understand why I didn't see 13th warrior in the theatre.

Now compare with Return of the King. ROTK has an awesome trailer. Its trailer made me think that it was definitely going to be the best movie of the year. And the Movie was even better than the trailer.

A good trailer is really important for a movie.

Another good movie with a bad trailer was X-Men. After first seeing the trailer for it, I was convinced that it was gonna suck. Instead, it turned out to be pretty good. :)

I got a better one for you guys. When I first saw the trailer for Starship Troopers (accompanied by a great song called "song no. 7" from a group called Blur) I thought this movie was gonna rock......but alas, the trailer was far better than the movie.

I liked Starship troopers.

You have to go way back but Raiders of the Lost Arc trailer did not want to give anything away so there was not much in it, just the logo, Harrison (who most did not know still...name was not Hans), and some wide shots.

All of Uwe Boll's films so far have had awesome trailers. All were far better than the movies themselves.

What I hate are bait-and-switch trailers (Dead Poets Society), and trailers that show the entire movie (Speed2).

The trailer for The Village, though, deserves a special place in movie hell.

I felt that all of the prequel trailers for Star Wars were far and away better than what actually ended up in the movies. Far and away.

How about the original teaser for Alien 3?

"On earth, everyone can hear you scream..."

Yeah, but they can only hear you screaming because you got duped by the teaser.
