My Humble attempt at fixing Casters vs. Non-Casters

Get rid of all classes that are not casters.

Substitute Fighters with Psychic Warriors and Tome of Battle classes.

Substitute Monks with, well, anything. Swordsage Unarmed Combatant variant would be my suggested choice.

Go over the tier system, and choose everything in Tier 1-3.

~OR~

Or, get rid of all classes that are casters.

Rangers and Paladins are the top casters. Nothing goes beyond level 4 spells.

Go over the tier system, and choose everything in Tier 3-5. Nerf or ignore many monsters from your game.

~OR~!

Simply know what you're getting into before you choose a class. Decide what you want to become in the pre-game, character creation phase. Seek wisdom in build options. If you truly want to be the guy that swings the big sword and that's it, be ok with that. Know your role, and know what others might be capable of doing that you can't.

And have fun.

You forgot Totemists and Binders. And Poland.

Incarnum users are for people who say, "Pshh... I don't wanna be a Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma caster. I wanna cast spells with my Hairy Chest, so I'm going to be a Constitution-based caster!" These people should be considered special, pat on the head, and allowed to do whatever they want. They're not very bright, but they can make a really big mess if they want to tantrum.

Binders are scary. Kinda like somebody said "Hey, I got an idea for a class. Lets bring the ideas of the Far Realm, but we won't call it Far Realm, into the Material Plane for players to play with." and the player says, "Hey, I've got an idea. I want to choose a class that allows me to have a chance of being possessed every time I use by base class abilities, that determine my RP attitude and choices for me!" These people should also be considered special, not for their lack of mental stats, but 'cause they're crazy.

Oh, I also forgot Truenamers. Everyone should ignore all other classes and play those.

Add Poland to taste. It's a seasoning.

Am I allowed to have a Polish sausage?
A regular Polish Sausage, or a +5 Vorpal Flaming Wounding Cold Iron Polish Sausage?

It doesn't matter. both are overpowered and should be banned form any game.

Polish Sausage will only be included as a Weapon of Legacy, with significant level by level penalties.

But seriously, you cannot fix casters by eliminating them.

Well, really, none of what he put forward was a "fix" to anything. It was "chop this half and replace with this," "chop this half and nerf this," and "just have fun playing."

Chopping melee classes and replacing them doesn't fix the melee classes you dropped. Chopping casters and nerfing monsters doesn't fix the casters you dropped. Just having fun doesn't the balance issue (though it does "fix" the lack of fun due to balance).

Based on that, I have my doubts he was trying to fix anything, but was trying to stress his third point. Just my take on it, though. As always, play what you like :)

Or get a DM that knows what he is doing and have games that have things that affect you other than simply combat. If characters turn into villains since they don't like how it turns out for them, they become NPC's. Perhaps the next party can defeat them.

Agreed. I've DMed for nearly two decades and never have had the spellcasters outshine the melee or skill monkey classes because I know how to use varied situations for the party. Sure, Mr. Wizard or Cleric can potentially do anything one of the other classes does, only better, but if he hasn't prepped the right spells for the situation he's just a meat shield.
