Need Advice on choosing an adventure path for some new players...

First Post
Hey all,

I'm getting ready to start DMing for a group of mostly first time players (2 of them have previous experience, but have not played regularly since 2nd ed.). We've run a few one-shots, to get everyone a feel for their characters, and the mechanics of the game, and now I'm ready to start them down an adventure path. I've been looking at both the 'Scales of War' and 'War of the Burning Sky' campaigns, and can't make up my mind as to which way to go. I'm looking for a storyline that has some sort of mystery element to it, that requires the PCs to think (and not just focus on which power card to play on their next turn).

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

No real comparison to me

I ran Scales of War for an experienced 3.5 group and although they did not particularly care for 4th ed. - the plot and storyline in Scales was shaky. We did the first 2 books and gave it up.

WotBS, on the other hand, has a great storyline and many diverse roleplaying opportunities. Just recently started that in a new online game and my group loved the first 2 sessions.

Just my two cents

Well, I am not sure how much mystery there is, but WotbS is just far better than the Scales of War AP.

WotbS > HPE AP > GG "AP" > SoW (IMO)

I'm obviously biased, so take what I say with a grain of salt - but I honestly believe that War of the Burning Sky is the best adventure path/campaign saga out there. But I'm the guy selling it, so I fully understand any reluctance to take me at my word!
