The D&D Beyond team released their monthly drop today, featuring new magic items, and ooze monsters!

As well, they issued errata for previously released Drops, fixing some issues the community had with feats, spells, and monsters. Most notably to me, they fixed that the angels of slaughter and vengeance cast Disguise Self, despite definitely not being humanoid shaped.

Good to see, in my opinion!!

What you didn't want to see a Blood Tornado turn into a jello tornado?!

Jokes aside, I appreciate the community's love for providing unfiltered (VERY unfiltered) feedback to us so that we can properly adjust things! :D

Obviously, this is good news. Fixing stuff, rebalancing stuff, rewording stuff. Hooray for errata.

But also, this makes me ask questions. Is the pre-errata content still available? Can you go back to the earlier version if you want to? Or is the original version now gone, lost to the abyss of the internet? If you had a character build using the original version, is it updated automatically? If the update is automatic, is there something to notify you that your PC has been changed?

I can't help but think back to an ancient (and now missing from WotC's website) time when Chris Perkins made a public statement: "When we release errata, it will always be free." It seems like the current philosophy is a little different. "When we release errata for paywalled content, the errata will also be behind a paywall." Logical? Yes. But also, notably different. Another reminder to everyone that you don't own your licensed content.

I mean, they told us for free what the changes are. You just don't get access to the complete new text unless you had access to the old text as well.

Fair point. I missed that the blog post included the updated text for most (not all: Astral Flood doesn't have full text changes).

I was expecting it to be here, with the rest of the errata: Changelog This shows no mention of the Drops errata yet. Hopefully it's coming? It would be a shame if you had to scour blog posts to find errata.
