The $290 for the hardback + PDF is expensive but understandable.

$180 for 4 PDF books is insane.

No, it doesn't need to go away. It's a ridiculous price for PDFs. You can see how overpriced they are by looking at the current bundle of holding for the current Hackmaster PDFs that they made. I'll wait to get the revised when they are on discount. I mean they can charge whatever they want, but the buyer can also say **** off.

I think you have it backwards. You should be thinking what an incredible deal that Bundle of Holding is!

Reminder to self to remove the Hackmaster Bestiary from my “to sell” stack. Or maybe it should go to a home where someone will properly appreciate it? Hmm.

Those books in those Bundles already recouped their losses. They are offering those at a low price to create new customers.

If you think new PDFs should cost BoH prices, you obviously do not know anything about making games. So just wait for them to go on sale.

This made its way to another thread, but the HM Arena at Gen Con apparently is a work of art. There's a video on Jolly's FB feed showing the flickering torches behind the gates, an elevated announcer (not in the pic), and then carnage that ensued (whether beast or character, couldn't tell).

Did anyone get to play HM using any of the proposed rules at GenCon?

This attitude needs to go away. All the writing, art, editing, and design that made the game went into those PDFs. Very little more work goes into making the hardbounds -- it is mostly material and shipping costs.

Gamers need to understand the actual work of making a game and where the actual costs lie.

The value of PDFs is ultimately set by the consumer, not the publisher. As one who has written and published, it was a realization I eventually came to that for a lot of people PDFs have very little perceived value. I think these days there are more gamers adopting a digital only approach to the hobby though, so maybe the sentiment (and perceived value) is shifting. I don't begrudge a publisher wanting to get their dollar value out of a purchase even if it's digital, though.
