I'll admit it -- I'm a Buffy and Angel nut. I've been watching a lot of both, since Buffy is in syndication on FX, and Angel is in all-new episodes on the WB. But I've always been drawn to the way magic works (or doesn't always quite work) in the Buffy paradigm... So, I started thinking about doing a Modern campaign in which I tossed out the Mage and Acolyte advanced classes from Urbana Arcana, and replaced them with a more dangerous Witch/Warlock advanced class that allowed fairly limited access to more "standard" spells, extended (yet more dangerous) access to spells slightly beyond the user's reach, and allow them to slowly become more capable with general rituals. Also, there would be general rituals that anyone could attempt, given the right access to materials and understanding. These would be increasingly more dangerous as their power increased, and rituals would be iffy even if performed properly. This wouldn't be a d20 Modern Buffy, it would be a magic system based on the elements present in Buffy, ported into a more standard Shadow Chasers/Urbana Arcana style game. Does anyone else think this would be an interesting element and setting? Can anyone see difficulties with the theory (I know the actual mechanics might be a bit clunky to work out in practice)? Does anyone have some input/suggestions on rituals? Perhaps someone has some suggestions for the Witch/Warlock AdC, like class abilities, etc... :D
