New Skill: Run

I've always thought it should be a skill. This would replace the Run feat.

Run [Dexterity]
Use this skill to run quickly.
Check: You may make a Run check to not get caught, or to catch up with, another running character. When characters are involved in a chase, they make opposed Run checks. If the chaser wins, they catch up to the chasee. If the chasee wins, they get away from the chaser.
Special: A character with 5 or more ranks in Run gains a +2 synergy bonus to Jump checks. For every point of a character's speed above 30, they gain a +1 bonus to Run checks. For every point of a character's speed below 30, they must accept a -1 penalty to Run checks.

I worked out a crazy response to this, but it was too crazy.

The problem with this is that imo running is more about base speed and physical attributes than actual skill at running. If there was a running skill, I would have its modification to a Run check be like a synergy bonus- +2 for every 5 ranks.

Furthermore, what about Endurance issues in running? And how far do the runners get before one catches up to the other? I figure the better by which one Run check beats the other, he should get that much farther ahead/close the gap that much faster. There are many issues with such a skill.
 

good point there i agree yea cause ur skill would also have toi depend on what ur wearing cause if u have on full plate and u have a tower sheild but if u have 40 ranks in runing u could run as fast as someone without armor no that is broken
 


I really don't think so. It's hard to justify adding new skills, particularly one whose scope is as narrow as run.
