New Spell: Booming Voice

Booming Voice

Level: Sor/Wiz 4, Druid 5
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Target: Caster or other living humanoid
Duration: 1 round per level
Saving Throw: Will negates, if applicable
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell increases the recipient's voice to a damaging level to others
when shouting. All those within a 30 ft. semicircle in front of the
recipient must make a fortitude save or become deaf (as the deafness spell).
All those within a 10 ft. semicircle take 1-6 points of subdual damage and
only half of that if a fortitude check is made successfully.
The recipient of the spell can choose how loud to speak or shout, but cannot
control a whisper and cannot disguise her voice. Depending on terrain, the
speaker's voice can be heard clearly over a mile away by anyone listening
and shouting can be heard five miles away. Ventriliquism will not work with
this spell.

Interesting Shout variant. Seems underpowered.

I suggest raising the damage, maybe

inside 30ft 1d6 subdual.
inside 10ft, 1d6/2 levels, save for half.
Objects take straight 2d6 damage that ignores hardness if within 10ft.

This is not on the Bard spell list? And it is on the Druid's?

Otherwise, good stuff. And modifying it according to Khorod is the way to go.

Cool, thanks. Um, yeah, gotta add that to the Bard's list as well, just in case a bard wants to perform at the MCI center or something.

You might like to try and add a fear effect in with the booming voice, in addition to the potentially deafening effect, and the minor amount of sonic damage.

I think under many conditions there will turn out to be a varying circumstance bonus the spell will give to Intimidate checks. A sentence recommending the range might be worthwhile. Adding a fear effect really twists the flavor. A variant called Demonic Scream might be cool.

Damage & Fear effect in a medium range cone...
prolly about 7th-8th level.

Yeah, adding the fear to the spell would definitely increase the level. I would make a separate spell for that and aim for 7th level, with increased damage to match, as well as allowing other spell effects to be added in conjunction.

The effect wouldn't really be fearful necessarily, but just loud. I limited the spell not to include other sound spells like Ghost Sound so that it could remain at the level it is at. It would be much like a loudspeaker as well as combat spell, and was originally designed for distant communication through a large valley with the bonus of damage if someone was in range.

I was thinking this spell was a bit underpowered also, and instead of bringing up the damage as much as Khorod had suggested, bring down the level. So with those changes:

Level: Sor/Wiz 2, Druid 2, Cleric 4
Damage: within 10 feet - 1d4/2 levels, save for 1/2;
10-30 feet - 1d4/2levels subdual;
Walls, structures, etc. within 10 feet - 1d4/2 levels, ignore hardness
