Nyc Flgs?

I'm going to be in New York City near Penn Station next week. Apart from the Compleat Strategist, which is already on my "to do" list, are there any other good FLGS around there?

What about other places (not just stores) that might appeal to a gamer geek?

Also, am I going to freeze my arse off?

Thanks in advance. ;)

Yeah, it'll be cold, bring some warm clothes.

You might want to check out Neutral Ground http://www.neutralground.com/Stores/NYC/Home.asp

It's more of a gaming center, than a store, but still interesting.

There are also a large number of comic book stores, including Forbidden Planet and Jim Henley's Universe, amongst others. There's another, even bigger one but I don't know the name, comics aren't really my thing.

Other than that I'm not sure what else is 'gaming oriented' but I could give other suggestions if there's anything else you're looking for.

Neutral Ground is great. Just make sure you got the address. It's on the fourth floor of an low-end office building.

About 6 blocks from Penn Station, up 7th avenue is Midtown Comics, which has got to be one of the greatest comic book stores in the world. www.midtowncomics.com
They've got an incredible comic and back issue selection and the upper floor has tons of figurines and the like.

Other than Neutral Ground and Compleat Strategist, there really isn't that much gaming wise in Manhattan. Kind of sad really.

I ran a RPGA adventure for the folks who run NeutralGround last GenCon and they are a really cool bunch. If I ever make it to NYC I will definately look that store up!

Thanks for the info people - mainly on other (now closed) thread.
I echo the call for warm clothing. I went last year and had two feet of snow overnight. funky. hopefully this year i'll get to The Compleat Strategist.

Try to get to both stores. If you can only get to one, then I'll ask what you're more interested in. I think NG has a better reaper miniature and d20 section, with a good selection of other RPGs as well. Complete Strategist has a ton of classic stuff and wargaming materials. Great selection of older materials as well.

Also, depending on the day you go, you might very well be able to get involved in a pick-up game at Neutral Ground. CS doesn't really have a gaming area.

Wish i saw this earlier.
There is one more gaming store in MAnhatten but they've kinda moved away from gaming and more towards card tourneys.

Forbidden Planet on 14th st.

Kings Games www.kingsgames.com is pretty out of your way as its in brooklyn. He has a nice gaming collection but is mostly internet cafe.

You WILL freeze your ass off. Its very very very cold in nyc this week and next week.

Neutral Ground is an ok store. I know the owner Matt, he's a cool guy. I havnt dragged myself there in a while.

Thats pretty much it really. There is gonna be a www.dnd.meetup.com DND meetup this saturday but i doubt you'll be in nyc in time to join us saturday afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who answered. Much appreciated! ;)

In theory I could make the tail end depending on how long the game lasts. Unfortunately, I won't have a car, so getting to the venue from where I'll be in time isn't really feasible. Thanks anyway. :)
