D&D General Official Elric of Melniboné TTRPG coming from Goodman Games

Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melniboné is getting an official tabletop roleplaying game courtesy of Goodman Games. The game will be powered both by the D&D 5E game engine, as well as Goodman's in-house Dungeon Crawl Classics.

A whole line of products is planned, under the banner The Classic Era of Elric, and will be crowdfunded in 2027.

Elric of Melniboné is a classic sword and sorcery character dating back to the 1960s, featuring in a series of stories by Michael Moorcock. The titular character, a summoner, is physically weak and maintains his health using special herbs until he acquires Stormbringer, a magical sword which grnats him physical prowess, but which must feed on the souls of living beings.

That wasn't the post you were responding to. I laid out exactly what my experience was with GG a few posts ago... How I responded, or felt about the experience doesn't change what it was.

Edit: You seem intent ondancing around the actual actions of GG that are the experience that has soured many on them as a company.

No dancing. No avoiding. Just a conversation including different people with different views of the situation and different experiences.

I believe it is possible to understand a different perspective without being required to adopt it as my own or subjugate the validity of my own experience.

Anyway...in all honesty (without serious re-working/re-design ) I dont think DCC or 5e are actualy a good engine for a game based on the Elric stories... though I guess I could see a more... Elric stuff to slot into D&D... approach.

Yeah, this looks like a nostalgia play by Goodman and not a best fit sort of thing.

Yes, DCC has patrons. But none of the other mechanics are a fit.

5E is still the game that most people play.
If it is made for 5.0 instead of 5.5, that is good for groups like mine.

By the time it's in folks' hands in late 2027/early 2028, I suspect being a 5.0-compatible game will be a lot less compelling.

Obojima, for instance, got their 5E version of their setting to market and immediately turned around to create a 5.5 one.

Eh... if it's trying to appeal to the most people, especially as time goes on, I'd argue being 5.0 is the wrong play.

I feel like my group will be 5.0 for a while yet. We talk about Tales of the Valiant sometimes or trying Enworld's version of A5E. So far, we have been lazy about buying another set of books for a game that we already have.
