D&D General Official Elric of Melniboné TTRPG coming from Goodman Games

Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melniboné is getting an official tabletop roleplaying game courtesy of Goodman Games. The game will be powered both by the D&D 5E game engine, as well as Goodman's in-house Dungeon Crawl Classics.

A whole line of products is planned, under the banner The Classic Era of Elric, and will be crowdfunded in 2027.

Elric of Melniboné is a classic sword and sorcery character dating back to the 1960s, featuring in a series of stories by Michael Moorcock. The titular character, a summoner, is physically weak and maintains his health using special herbs until he acquires Stormbringer, a magical sword which grnats him physical prowess, but which must feed on the souls of living beings.

Yeah, way too many people supporting bigotry and hatred. I guess shiny new RPG books are more important than ethics and morality.

It's the perfect game for Elric. Absolutely fantastic design and the art is phenomenal.

I thought that they were going to "make good" for the backers of the failed Kickstarter (a good thing IMO) and the Bledsaws were not going to profit from it - or did that change?

PR smokescreen to whitewash working with people they swore they'd never work with again.

I tried to forget about Dragonlords of Melnibone. It was objectively bad, a bit of hastily thrown together d20 shovelware that deserves to be lost to the winds of time.

I hope it does huge numbers and Michael Moorcock gets a large chonk of that money.

I mean, I probably won't back for a variety of reasons, most of which have nothing to do with this campaign specifically.

I just feel like Moorcock's work was foundational to our hobby, and think he deserves a nice payout as his life enters it's final few decades.

The Black Sword Hack is an amazing game. Probably the best treatment of the subject matter ever published, as much as I cherish my old copies of Stormbringer.

Totally agree. It works so well and packs a lot of game in a slender volume. One of my favourites.

This was a collaboration with Chaosium (as were the Games Workshop hardcover versions of Call of Cthulhu and Runequest). Specifically, this is the 3rd edition of the Stormbringer RPG. There was also a boxed German language edition of this published through GW's Citadel division.

I loved the Chaosium boxed set version, and still have my character sheets from those games. Getting lost in the Forest of Troos...

The Games Workshop edition was also very nice but the pages would detach like falling leaves as soon as you opened it.

Oh those sorcerers of Pan Tang! :-D

There is also the Melnibonean Mythos in OD&D Supplement IV Gods, Demi-Gods, and Heroes (but not the later WotC premium reprint) and in the earliest printings of 1e AD&D Deities & Demigods (but again not in the later printings or the PDFs).

I haven't seen the OD&D one but the 1e stuff was pretty cool.

Firstly, I would love to get this as I’m a big fan of Moorcock in general and Elric in particular. I adore his world, which manages to be both impossible and believable at the same time. Elric is a great character, as are many of the supporting characters, with Stormbringer as probably the greatest magic sword in all fantasy fiction. Arioch is an awesome patron too.

But I won’t be getting it because of the work with Bledsaw Jr.
