D20 Culture, a Brazilian RPG publisher, has announced plans to adapt the DC Universe into an RPG, with a crowdfunding campaign to launch later this year. The Justice League Unlimited RPG is the first official DC Comics-focused RPG to be released in nearly 20 years and will be co-authored by comics creator Mark Waid. The RPG will be based on the currently running Justice League Unlimited comic book, which features a large cast of superheroes and is headquartered in the Watchtower, a space station orbiting Earth. Waid is also the author of the Justice League Unlimited comics series.

The RPG is described as being narrative-focused, with options to either build their own character or play as an existing DC hero. Also featured are various hero archetypes, which allow players to quickly build their characters based off popular tropes such as the "Champion of Tomorrow" and "The Dark Knight." The game system appears to be a bespoke system, with players have "Ascension Points" that they can put into Attributes and purchase powers during character creation. Powers can take many forms including Super Strength, Flight, Speed Force, Magic, Telepathy, and technological Exoskeletons, and Lantern Rings. The game will feature a mix of combat scenes, "saving scenes" in which heroes try to protect innocents from disasters, and interlude moments to delve into character moments. The game will also use a "Crisis Die" that adds catastrophic narrative effects to games.

“For over 85 years, DC has been the home of the world’s greatest superheroes with incredible stories," said Peterson Rodrigues, CEO at D20 Culture. "Working with comic legend Mark Waid to create something new in this universe has been such an honor. With the Justice League Unlimited Roleplaying Game we are really pushing our work to new heights to create an original and bold system for players to immerse themselves in the tales of the Justice League, we cannot wait to bring this to audiences across the world.”

“Table top games have such an amazing opportunity to bring new stories to fans and allow them to experience these beloved worlds and characters in a whole new way," added Mark Waid. "Approaching Justice League Unlimited Roleplaying Game my priority has been to set up a new story that fits authentically into this canon and builds upon it to provide a narrative playground for players to make their own. I can’t wait to reveal more so stay tuned.”

I'm interested, but... I've been burned by Gamefound an actual 100% of the time I've backed anything involving them. Like, not the creators, but this worthless middle-man. I'll follow along and maybe buy it when I can NOT go through GameLost.

Definitely interested in this one. My group played 3rd edition Mutants & Masterminds a fair amount when it first came out, and then when the DC Adventures RPG was released using the same system, we sort of hopped settings and did a 'streets of Gotham' type game. It was a lot of fun running a gritty street-level game where the players were crossing paths with a mix of their own enemies, famous Batman villains, and occasionally catching sight of Bats himself.

One thought. First in...how many years?

DC adventures was released in 2013. At the most, not counting how long it was on shelves, additional book, etc...that's still only 13 years.

DC Heroes, though it is older editions, is being released again soon for it's 2nd and 3rd editions (or I hope, they say they have progress on it's printing in my updates...sooo).

Longest I could say is that it's been 13 years since one was created...but with DC heroes coming I'd say the release may be this year even for that one.
It has been 16. DC Adventures first launched in 2010.

I think I will stick with Batman: Gotham City Chronicles RPG by Monolith. Its very good and Batman and his expanded mythos is the core of what I like most about DC.

I quite like the Quickplay, and am adapting it for my own uses. I think using Resolve to power your powers is a good mechanic (and allows you to do that thing where you pass out from pushing yourself too hard) and the Plot Point/Crisis mechanic is inspired, as long as everyone is bought into this being a fully four-colour JLU (and they should, that is literally the name of the game) or Brave and the Bold game where everyone being turned into gorillas is just a thing that happens.

I've played so many Supers games (it's always been one of my favorite genres, which is probably why I end up running it so often; you always run the game you want to play) so I'll probably be into this as well, even if I am a bit more of a Marvel Zombie.

Waid is a good get to be doing a lot of the writing/lorekeeping (weird to have him listed as an artist; I literally can't think of anything he's ever drawn?) so we'll see how this looks. I'm exciting to be getting M&M 4E, I like the current Marvel system (had fun playing it at GenCon), so no complaints about getting something new for DC. The Green Ronin work for the DC M&M 3E was good...but I didn't like 3E as much as 2E, so less enthusiastic about it. Always thought the Mayfair DC Heroes RPG was too fiddly and really struggled with containing Superman and Batman in the same world.

Will be watching this one. Interested to see what the Gamefound campaign looks like.
