The thread about Washington, DC/Arlington below has made me realize something: gamers are a VERY well-connected group. It’s been well-established on this board that enworlders in particular have a peculiar, amazing internet community built here. As a group, despite heated arguments over just what alignment PC X is, and what actions that alignment will allow, I have seen displayed here more kindness and concern that I do much of the time in the “real” world.
We help each other out, and that’s just awesome.
And so I’d like to swallow my pride, reach out, and ask for some help.
I’m a first year grad student at the George Washington University in the International Affairs/Security Policy program. GWU is a private school, and is thus VERY expensive. In addition, I got engaged about a year ago, and am preparing for a Dec. 27th wedding (to a wonderful, beautiful woman who not only games, but posts here!).
In order to make grad school, the wedding, etc. work, I needed to have a job in order to make ends meet, and prevent a high-speed descent into massive personal debt. Fortunately, I got a job where I have been happily working for just over 3 months, now. That all sounds great, right?
But here’s the problem: for various reasons that I would rather not detail, my position at work is in jeopardy of being ended, and I have no immediate prospects on the horizon. I'd really like to pay my rent, and I would really like to actually get married...both of which require money. Ugh.
I’m a hard worker with a strong midwestern work ethic, creative, an experienced writer and speaker, and am talented with computers. I have done everything in the past from working on a loading dock to managing a computer network, from telemarketing to retail-sales, from farming to work as an administrative assistant, from quantitative data analyses and database management to writing letters and greetings for a US Congressman.
I moved here to work in government, or at least in something government related (specifically in National Security/Intelligence). Quite frankly, that’s the kind of work I would prefer--analysis is fun business, for me! Nonetheless, I am looking for ANYTHING to ensure that I do not have to spend a large amount of time unemployed.
Moderators, I understand if this is too OT for the board, but I have my hopes…
Thank you in advance to all of you. Regardless of what happens next for me, know that if any of you need any help at all, you can always ask, and The Universe will do its best to provide.
God Bless.

PS--relocation is not an option, at the moment. I am looking for something in the DC Metro area.
