The SD was impressive enough, but that link to the comparative starships ate my entire evening. I thought the Battlestar Galactica was bigger than that!
All through the 1970's, when I was a kid, my Dutch relatives bestowed upon me great heaps* of Lego that I still own today (lurking in a big Rubbermaid[TM] tub in the basement). I have whole sets that haven't seen production in years... (No. I'm keeping them--they're mine )
The last years I played around with my bricks were around the time Star Wars (IV) first appeared. I remember wishing I could build a Star Destroyer... You can imagine that I was amazed by Lego's announcement of this humongous set--and a tad weepy I can't afford it! Oh, the nostalgia... *sniff*, *sniff*
I went to check Monte's pix... I had no idea this set had so many cool parts! WOW!
Way to go Monte! (Lucky dude--where did you say he lived? )
*: in the 1970's Lego was still relatively new to North America, so I was pretty spoiled by what I got from Europe at the time...
Here's info on the Star Destroyer from the official Lego website. I saw it a month or so ago when I was ordering some stuff. Too pricey for me though.
Great if you love Star Wars and Legos and want to increase your stock of grey parts. The dimensions are pretty awe-inspiring for an official Lego set.
You HAVE to check out the starships site he mentions, if you like spaceships at all. You can move the gifs around to compare different ships side by side! Geek-fun meter is pegged!
I'm totally jealous. If I happened to have 300 bucks lying around I'd get that thing. The starship comparison site is cool. Star Wars, Trek, Robotech, Lexx, whatever, he's got some awesome stuff there. That's one of the things I really liked about West End Games Star Wars Roleplaying Game books: they always had scale comparisons in the books for vehicles. I seldom played WEG Star Wars, I mostly read it for the technical aspects to feed the inner geek.
