(OT) Muountainbike Vacation--Where to Go?

Falcon

First Post
OK.

I have one of the best mountain bikes EVAR!--Rocky Mountain Blizzard with Reynolds 853 steel, from Canada, and I want to do a 3-week tour in the Fall in one of the following areas of our lil' ole' planet: Ireland, Scotland, British Columbia, Scandinavia, or Central Europe (where I lived for 7 years) . I have 3 weeks, I speak English, German, some Spanish, some Latin, and I love to fish, and hike and hang out in cool villages and towns, and sip whiskey and beer. My time frame is mid-September. Any input from you Citizens of the World will be most appreciated.

I can tell you this much about scandianvia:

denmark is flat as a board (no mountains).
you cant get a good beer in sweeden (restricted sale).
you cant buy a good beer in norway (too expensive).

you might want to consider Iceland, lots of nice things have been said about Iceland on these boards.

personally, i'd go to scottland. Great tradition for single malts and beers.

New Zealand

New Zealand has it all

The best mountainbiking in the world
The best fishing in the world
The best hiking in the world
The best beer in the World

It speaks English well (though not much else), it likes Beer and whsikey, its relatively safe and has LOTS of open space

(the islands are about the size of Britain but with only 3.7 million people - the largest city (only city imho) has a mere 1 million people (1/3 of the population!)

ONLY down side - its a long way from anywhere (except perhaps OZ)

See my nutty response.

"...hang out in cool villages and towns, and sip whiskey and beer." There's no better place to do these things laddie.

I would say Scotland/Ireland just from a personal point. Save the BC trek when you don't quite have as much time (since you're not that far away).
