PC Design help

As I've said in other threads, a guy in our group is considering trying to run a 4Ed campaign sometime later this year or early next year. Since I'm currently the sole owner of any 4Ed material, I've been taking the time to dig through the system in greater depth by designing some PCs...

I have a concept that has been floating around in my head for a while, but I need to know a few things:

1) Where can I find spikes for armor?

2) Where can I find bladed gauntlets or clawed gloves or the like?

3) Where can I find the 4Ed equivalent of vials of "Trogstink"?

1) Where can I find spikes for armor?
There are no mechanics for spikes on armor. There might be a specific magic armor that does something like that though.

2) Where can I find bladed gauntlets or clawed gloves or the like?
There are Spiked Gauntlets in the Adventures Vault along with the Spiked Shield.

3) Where can I find the 4Ed equivalent of vials of "Trogstink"?
Whose a whatsit now?

Spiked gauntlets could be generalized and treated as spiked armor after all an unarmed attack isnt necessarily your fists... so knowlege of using them is rather easily interpreted as knowlege of using spiked armor as a weapon. It barely qualifies as skinning.

Trogstink was bottled extract from Troglodyte scent glands. Stored in breakable vials, you'd use it as a grenade, causing your foes to retch and gag and generally be miserable.

It sounds like the effect you're looking for is a dazing consumable, of which I couldn't find any. If you're willing to just settle for a slow effect, you could re-skin the tanglefoot bag from Adventurer's Vault.

Jolt Flask, Adventurer's Vault
Noxious Grenade, Eberron Player's Guide
Razor Armor, Player's Handbook
Spiked Jacket, Adventurer's Vault 2
Razor Bracers, Adventurer's Vault
Tigerclaw Gauntlets, Adventurer's Vault

Razor armor feels like a porcupine effect on an enemies critical hit.. .. which made it wierd to me not normally what I think of as bladed armor. But spiked jacket for the defense...and spiked gauntlets for the offense... kind of works ... though I would like scale myself ;)
not sure why the enchantment is only on softies.

The noxious grenade sounds perfect but expensive if the design is intended for low levels... my thought was to lightly reskin a seekers at-will "Thorn Cloud Shot"

Good list Mort!

I'll have to dig deeper in my Eberron Player's guide- that's the one with the Warforged on the front, right?- because that Noxious Grenade sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

Ditto the Razor Armor...though I had hoped for something the PC could wear right out of the gate, because porcupines are part of the inspiration for this PC, as are skunks and wolverines. And Pepe LePew & Wolverine. And Sonic. And Taz.

AV 1 & 2, though...I hadn't planned on buying anything else for 4Ed beyond Dark Sun. At least for the near future, I'm sticking to DMG1, MM1, PHBs 1-3, Eberron PG and Forgotten Realms PG.

Anyone care to try to sell me on any other products? Why should I buy them?

Get DDI for a month and download and update the Character Builder. You'll be able to build characters using all the books. When new books come out that you want the CB update for all you have to do is subscribe for another month. The Character Builder only works in Windows though.

Thanks, but that won't happen for a variety of reasons:

1) I'm a Mac guy who has yet to find a reason to run Windows emulation, and 4Ed/DDI isn't the breakthrough product.

2) I hate reading material and working online and will avoid it when I can. I dropped Pyramid, Dragon & Dungeon when they went digital. IOW, physical only for me.

3) I'd need the stuff to be physical anyway, since I'm not using anything I can't loan out to the others in the group. IOW, unless everyone buys into DDI, its going to be physical books only.
