This past week, a user over on twitter posted a monet painting claiming it was created with AI and asked others to say why it was inferior as compared to a real monet. Then the op said it was an actual monet painting which then caused more drama as folks responded by saying "in person it looks better" one of the replies was a 7 paragraph explanation about why real art is better than slop.

here is one of the sets of the original twitter post and replies ( I do not know how to enlarge so it's large when you click on it)

I think people were having a knee jerk response to the AI tag, instead of actually thinking about it.

possibly a kneee jerk reaction or it could just be a photo quality issue - the image posted doesnt look like a pristine image

I started to write, "they went to a lot of trouble for an Internet gotcha," but it wasn't any trouble at all. They just posted a picture of someone else's work under false pretenses, then cherry-picked the reactions.
so here's an article that goes into more detail including people deleting their responses

There's also this study that is also linked in the article that says people think positively about an image or even music until they learn it's AI Understanding how personality traits, experiences, and attitudes shape negative bias toward AI-generated artworks - Scientific Reports

which also applies to other things like actual creators for example you love a book or show, then you find out the person or company behind it is horrible and you no longer like it.

Seems like politics in that people are now so divided into my tribe being absolutely right and yours being so wrong it cannot possibly have anything right or truthful. That, and nobody waits a couple days before commenting. The story tends to change as the truth comes out.

Seems like that thing your mother said about counting to 10 before speaking when you are mad was right all along.

What are these poor internet trolls going to do once AI takes their jobs???

This seems like pretty obvious ragebaiting to me. The Monet he posted is inferior because it's a tiny digital reproduction on a screen. Claiming it's AI and then posting peoples' reactions isn't really worth bragging about.

It's like if I posted a picture of a mouse and then said "My cat brought this live mouse into my home, what should I do?" And then I made fun of everyone who posted a genuine response. "You idiots, it's just a random picture of a mouse from the internet! You're all so reactionary!"

For some reason a lot of people still assume other people are trying to be genuine when they post on the internet. Luckily AI is here to help us never trust anyone or anything again.

It's not surprising that trying to trap people by posting reactionary stuff would, in fact, trap some people. That not everyone is going to know a Monet by sight is also unsurprising- especially if you say "this is an AI gen image that I made to look like a Monet."
A response of "I don't like this" makes sense. But several are along the lines of (paraphrasing) "I know Monet and this is not Monet". I think there's value to showing at least some loud and obnoxious critics don't know half as much as they'd like.
