Persistant Idea in a Magic Item

Elocin

Lurker (sort of)
I am wondering how much a Ring of Persistant Mantle of Egregious Might would cost me with a command word activated 1/day?

How much would it cost to add to an existing Mithril Chain Shirt +5 the same spell without the Persistant part?

Can anyone help me out with this, I would appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

I forgot could I possibly get a break down of how you would price both of these items.

Again, thank you in advance.

Whatever your DM thinks it should cost. Persistant spell (must resist urge to rant about persistant spell again) shouldn't get you by the magic item creation guidelines, at any rate. The DM should price it by guaging it vs. other similar items, a formula is just a nice starting point, particuarly when dealing with spells and command words (they only really work well with simple bonuses and spell trigger / completion).

Not knowing a think about Mantle of Egregious Might I really can't answer this question, myself.

It's from the Book of Eldritch Might. It gives a +4 luck bonus to AC, attack rolls, saves and ability checks. 8th level spell, lasts 10 minutes per level. I'd help price it, but I have yet to figure out the logic behind the luck bonus. Hell, I can't even price the Stone of Good Luck! :)

It's just a guideline, but using table 8-40 in the DMG, wouldn't we get something along those lines?

Command Word: spell level X caster level X 1800gp
Charges per day: divide by (5 / charges per day)

spell level = 12 (8 + 4 for persistent)
caster level = 12 X 2 - 1 = 23
12 X 23 = 276 X 1,800gp = 496,800
496,800 / 5 = 99,360gp

Hm. That doesn't sound like much for so many effects.

That's because its not appropriate to price it as a permanent spell. If you do, you get funky results. Since the effects are permanent, you just price it based upon the bonuses received, not the spell itself, such as with a Belt of Giant Strength. The belt is priced based upon the bonus provided to Strength, not upon the spell itself.

I agree with kreynolds. The use of Persistant Spell essentially makes it an item with permanent (continuous) luck bonuses.

So maybe:

+4 luck = 4^2*2500 = 40000gp

All powers are non-similar (as per T&B), so

+4 luck to AC: 40000gp
+4 luck to Attack Roll: 40000gp
+4 luck to Saves: 40000gp
+4 luck to Ability Checks: 40000gp

Cost = 160000gp * 2 (several non-similar powers) = 320,000gp

Cost to create: 160,000gp and 6,400 XP

It's a very powerful magic item, whose bonuses stack with just about everything.

Only the price of the secondary powers would be doubled. Since all of the abilities have the same price, just three of them should be doubled. Only saves 40000 gp in the long run, or 20000 gp and 1600 xp. It's still a hideously expensive item though, and something only very high level characters could afford.

You are correct, my bad. Alternatively, the cheapest way would be to have 4 distinctive items, each with a +4 bonus, which would nearly halve the cost, at the expense of 4 slots.

Just as a reminder for this spell. The +4 to your abilities is to ALL of your abilities. Hmmm, so I think this thing costs way beyond anything an 18th level character could possibly afford. Thats kind of what I thought but when I was working it out I came up with a Persistant Mantle cats as a 9th level spell at 18th level catser worked out ot about 58,000 GP, which seemed really cheap to me when you take into effect that a +4 luck bonus to ONE ability costs 40,000 GP. Mind you that is all 24-7 but still I think the 58K was really cheap. Damn, I so wanted my Sorc to have a 36 in Chr, oh well, gues sI will just take it as a spell then.

Thanks everyone.
