Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Eh. I still can't help but think that when someone is gaming process in RPGs, gaming them back with Superior GM Power just kind of reinforces the adverserial relationship a lot of people see in RPGs. The better thing is to either just not care, or if you have to (or at least can't make yourself not), take the issue up the player level and deal with it there.

I had a teenage player in an earlier campaign who bought his own Monster Manual so he could look up whatever it was the PCs were fighting and tell everyone any weaknesses it had. My solution was to stop referring to the monsters by their true names, and show the players pictures from earlier editions of what their foes looked like. So when they were up against a bunch of skum, I showed them the Tony DiTerlizzi illustration from the AD&D 2E Monstrous Manual and referred to them as "fish-men." He had no idea what these monsters were and couldn't look them up.

And then, when I got tired of doing that, I just told him "no referencing the Monster Manual during game play unless you're the DM."
