Honestly, this is kind of where I'm at. When I decided to finally do the Looking For Group thing I figured I'd give it a year, and if I hadn't found a group to stick with I'd just stop with TTRPGs. That deadline is at the end of next month and the magic 8 ball says outlook not so good.

I forget: What's your stance vis-a-vis online play? I got into a Pirate Borg group via ENWorld -- all strangers -- and it's been great, but it is over Discord.

At least with online play, I suspect the big problem would be sifting through all the chaff; finding people interested in the same games I am, wanting to play in the same time frames, willing to commit to playing pretty regularly every other week, and actually keeping to it. I'm a little cynical how that would be.

I don't think I'd even try putting a group together for FTF play any more; too much nonsense of finding the right place to play, and driving around town to get to it. But then, I'm old.

My coworkers and I keep trying to schedule our second Borderlands game in six months, and it's derailed constantly by these issues, plus one person having wedding planning and one person barreling toward maternity leave.

Two out of 6 of my old local gaming group were very bad for last minute cancellations which was particularly bad, as we lived in a 50 Km radius. We tried one of them hosting, because he would frequently claim family issues that made him stay home. He was the furthest from me and I'd end up traveling 80 Km to play, but the cancellations didn't change. Got a used PC from work that was being tossed out and refurbished it, both a halfway decent webcam and a Bluetooth conference phone, installed virtual tabletop software, then set the whole thing up at our most central host's house so they could play remote. Didn't help.

I think if I was driving this far and hooking them up with a computer and they still flaked, I would stop being friends with them.

I had a weird falling out with my group of 20 years or so. It’s now been…a decade (?)…since I rolled dice with malice aforethought.

But a big part of that is on me. I still want to game, but honestly, I haven’t put in the effort to find a new group.
