If I'm looking for a fantasy based, mechanically heavy, and almost exclusively combat-focused RPG, WoW is literally right there. Free accounts currently go up to level 20 and most of the world scales to your level, so you can go most anywhere and experience most of the game for free. It's a rather dramatic uphill climb to try to convince me that your fantasy based, mechanically heavy, and almost exclusively combat-focused tabletop RPG can do better for cheaper. Especially given there's zero stigma for solo play in video games, whereas there's still quite a lot of stigma associated with solo tabletop RPGs.
Though I do recommend giving Lord of the Rings Online a go :)

I haven’t looked into it. The post was more about my frustration that a lot of tabletop RPGs seem to want to compete with video games where video games just utterly outclass tabletop RPGs…like involved and complicated combat, as an example. Rather than, you know, focusing on the things video games just cannot do that tabletop RPGs excel at.

From what I understand of the sequence, much of the original intended Season 4 and 5 got compressed into a Season 4 they thought was going to be the last season. Then, after they'd done that, they got told they had a Season 5. So now they're pulling out any of the cut Season 4 episodes they think could still be viable and doing them, and then trying to fill out the rest and still have a worthwhile climax.

Honestly, its a surprise Season 5 isn't a worse wreck than it is.
As I understand it, getting a season 5 happened after all of season 4 was shot. The series finale, Sleeping in Light, was originally shot as part of season 4 (which is why Ivanova is in it), but after they got the renewal they shot a new S4 finale. So other than Sleeping in Light, there wasn't any opportunity to move things back into season 5

The original plan was that the Earth Civil War was supposed to be resolved in episode 5.6, and Intersections in Real Time (the interrogation episode) was supposed to be the season 4 finale. So season 5 was "padded" with six more episodes than the plot was originally planned for.

In the Babylon 5 script books, JMS states that he had Season Five neatly-plotted out... and then the only copy of his notes were stolen while at a con. His failed attempts to recover them resulted in the contentious "Telepath Colony" arc, which was supposed to last three episodes but wound up being eleven. JMS had other plans for S5, but those notes went missing (again) in a hotel room. Compounding the problem was Christian, the only cast member whom JMS couldn't re-sign; the departure of Ivanova and the introduction of her replacement Lochley caused additional strain on the season.
Unrelated, but I have some extremely JMS-like Babylon 5 fanfic for sale, if anyone's interested.

Ew, gross.
There's also a lot easier ways to do that. Any number of other social activities. Any number of other game-like activities. A whole world of options, really. So why spend your time with a bloated mess of a fantasy RPG that's heavy on rules and combat focused when you could have a better experience with less hassle? If I want rules heavy non-stop fantasy fighting, I'm not going with a tabletop RPG is my point. Video games just do it better. If I want to play an RPG with actual people, face-to-face, I'm going to pick something that can do what video games can't. Not an RPG that focuses on doing badly what video games do incredibly well.
