maybe 20 years ago had some friends visit from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania (20 miles west of Hershey) and they thought they'd be nice and bring us a big box of Herseys chocolate as a gift - I accepted it pleasantly and then tasted it for the first time, it was horrible so we quickly gave it away to some undiscerning child or other. I can still remember the bad taste in my mouth though.

I'm yet to encounter any good American Chocolate, especially when Whittakers is the yardstick

When was it ever good?

Yeah Whittakers used to do these small bars and peanut slabs.

Cadbury decided to produce peanut slabs they were crap. Whittaker decided to do large blocks of chocolate.

Then in 2009 Cadbury decided to endhittify the ingredients and Whittakers blew up. Worked with a guy who worked at Cadburyss. They lost 2/3rds if their market overnight.

No more Cadbury factory now and its imported from Aussie.

Another one for Whittakers! And they still make the small slabs, you can get peanut, almond, and my personal fave, coconut. Alas, here in 'Straya we don't get the full range of Whittakers.

Shout out to Green and Blacks. They make amazing chocolate. But they're a British company and it hasn't been available in 'Straya for a few years now. :-(

Oh! Almost forgot Tony's! It's fairtrade and gorgeous. And widely available.

I too am yet to encounter any good American chocolate. I mean, there must be small time producers there doing something good. But I'll never encounter them.
