I prefer dark chocolate. There is decent American chocolate, but it's not from the big franchises. It's not like when I'm traveling in Europe and can just pick up a chocolate bar in a random store, made with real ingredients, and have it taste better than most of the chocolate I can get.

There is some American chocolate that is egregiously bad, like that s--tuff they mass produce near holidays that's mostly sugar.

There's some high percentage chocolate that's decent, though once it gets to 90% cocoa it's passing out of the band for me. There were a few chocolateer shops I remember fondly from my childhood that used high quality ingredients and made good chocolate as well, but I don't know if any of them are still open.

I've been on Keto for 4 months now, so have to avoid most chocolate, but able to have a handful of Lily's every now and then (low sugar). I buy the chips since they're like half the price as the bars for some reason. They taste amazing and would recommend to anyone watching their sugars.

We just came back from our annual pilgrimage Up North to the lands of the Cherry Republic (Motto: "Life, Liberty, Beaches, and Pie!"). There's a great chocolatier in Empire called The Grocer's Daughter.

BTW, when I was talking about good chocolate in Europe, I worked for a Swiss based company for over 20 years. They have serious chocolate laws. Like "We have an international reputation to maintain and you will not be the company to mess that up". So most of my European chocolate was either in Switzerland, or was people from Switzerland bringing over chocolate when coming to visit.
