Hi everyone,
I'm a solo developer, and I've just released a free test build. It's not a finished game – it exists to answer one question, and I need your feedback to answer it.
The concept I want to validate
After playing Baldur's Gate 3, I kept coming back to its fights: using the environment, high ground, cover, setting things on fire. So I'm testing whether that can stand on its own:
What's in the test build
Free, runs in the browser, no account, no install (desktop with a mouse):
Roll & Barrel — turn-based fantasy tactics in your browser
What I need to find out – and why your feedback matters
Before I build more, I want to know whether the core idea works. Please tell me honestly:
1. Does the concept hold up? Is one arena fight fun on its own, or do you miss story and exploration?
2. Does the environment make a difference? Did you use cover, high ground and barrels – or ignore them?
3. Do the rules feel right? Anything wrong, or anything missing that you'd expect from 5e?
4. What's missing for long-term fun? Levelling, loot, more arenas, building your own party, harder difficulty, something else?
You can reply here or use the Feedback button in the game.
Thanks for reading, and for playing if you give it a try!

The concept I want to validate
After playing Baldur's Gate 3, I kept coming back to its fights: using the environment, high ground, cover, setting things on fire. So I'm testing whether that can stand on its own:
- 5e rules (SRD 5.2.1), kept as close to the text as I could
- Small, closed arenas – no open world, no story around it, one fight at a time
- An environment that matters – cover, elevation, barrels that explode when set on fire, burning terrain
What's in the test build
- A party of four (Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, Rogue) against bandits
- A guided tutorial (~10 min) that teaches the rules step by step
- One larger arena with three different setups
