Quick Monk Question

I don't own or have acess to OA currently, hoping to buy it with my next pay check. Anyway, in OA I am told there are new rules for weapons monks can use...

So,

1. What is the complete list of weapons that the monk can use (both core and oa, but, more the later please)?

2. What weapons allow the monk to use it's unarmed BAB, ect?

1) butterfly sword*, club*, crossbow (light or heavy) dagger, javelin, jitte*, kama*, nunchaku*, quarterstaff*, sai*, shuriken, tonfa*

2) *'s plus lajatang, nekode, three section staff

3 section staff?

The existence of something called a "three section staff" reminds me of a questino I've had for a few weeks.

If a wealthy, high-level fighter wants to be able to use a reach weapon, but be able to "fold" it down into a normal length weapon, would you allow him to have one built? It's much easier to carry a reach weapon and an alternate melee weapon, but perhaps he wants to get it enchanted with an enhancement bonus, or something.

What are the rules to 3-section staff? I'm interested in knowing how much time such a thing takes to assemble, and how the mechanics of the weapon would work. And how much does it cost?

I don't know what special rules it may have, but it is not "assembled" - it's three sections joined with two pieces of chain or something. That's how it's used - typically one section in each hand with the third section in the middle.

the only special rule in regards to monks is that they have to use an Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat to use it properly (because it's size Large)

that's it :D it's essentially nunchaku with an additional section; it was originally a farm tool used for 'threshing grain'

What I've always wanted to know is if the three section staff gives a 1.5 x strength damage adjustment. There is nothing that says it doesn't, but it seems that it is used more as a double weapon.

aha. staff is poorly named

What's all this with people hurting other people with converted farm implements? Next time I'm going to cast my STP as Plowshares to Plowshares.

I can't wait to have a low intelligence monk try to lean on a three-section staff. DM: "you fall over, and realize that your staff is not a single rigid object."

Well the question of how a three-section staff works became a non-issue. The fighter is currently applying his intellect toward coming up with a design for a convertible guisarm which will telescope down to halberd-length for easy carrying and convenience in tight dungeon spaces. Mostly, he's worried that his AC will never be nearly as high as that of a fighter with a shield. He'll take Dodge and Mobility and try to get over it. Hopefully the ability to take out everything that comes near him with Combat Reflexes will make him feel a little better.

Has anyone designed a simple, functional extendable haft for a reach weapon? The one I'm working on will be springloaded so that it can be extended quickly (by the spring) and then retracted (by disconnecting the spring from the extension and letting gravity pull it in) before being reset. I'll post a design when I finish it.

The joy we get from those springloaded folding umbrellas need not be limited to rainy days in the real world...

Yeah, it's a Large weapon, and therefore uses 1.5x Str mod for damage. Makes it a pretty nasty weapon in the hands of a high-Str monk.

My write-up for a theoretical Crab clan sumo wrestler used one, since he might sometimes need a weapon with an enhancement bonus. After all, if you've got an 18 Str, why not?

Yup, and it only sets you back 40k gp!

It involves a pair of 1-inch diameter Ring Gates...
