Rain of Steel too powerful

I've just come to the conclusion that Rain of Steel is way overpowered.

Think about it as extra damage every round. It blows the rangers and warlocks extra damage out of the water, even if a ranger spends a feat!

Not only that, but it affects every adjacent target, so even at 30th-level, it's the ultimate minion killer.

One balancing possibility is that it counts as your Opportunity Attack for the turn. Meaning it only affects one target per turn, which would also limit a fighter's ability to halt someone's movement if they provoke.

You should probably give a page number reference to Rain of Steel, so people who haven't memorized the book know what you're talking about. :P

It is very powerful. But compare it to flaming sphere. Pretty similar.

That said, it is the daily I would take for certain. Very powerful indeed. Note that it doesn't count as your opertunity attack or anything else. It's a free action once it's activated.

There's a huge gap in daily quality from what I can tell, where some are "just like an encounter power but a little extra damage" and others are "holy cow awesome" like rain of steel, flaming sphere, divine power, etc.

It's a bit bothersome to me, but I'm not sure that it means the problem lies with the powers like rain of steel or not.

So it is a Fighter Attack 5 power (daily), is a martial Stance, that is a minor action to activate.

The effect is that any enemy that starts its turn adjacent to the person triggering the power takes 1[W] damage, for as long as the person triggering the power is able to make opportunity attacks.

Yeah, pretty good daily power. I would not call it too powerful, and I do not think it is more powerful than the choices for other classes, and in fact the average damage is probably similar to other classes but more reliable since it's an auto hit (while those other classes instead have to roll, but do a lot more damage with those rolls if they hit). It's a good one.

I mean, it's not actually that hard to get away from the fighter if you really want to. You'll take a hit if you're marked, but you can simply shift-move away. Sometimes you can even shift-charge.

Rain of Steel is good, but it has it's weaknesses as well. It's not the daily I want against a skirmisher or lurker solo, for example.

It's worst against certain lurker solos (ones that blind the fighter effectively so he can't take OAs), sure... and it's still better than any of the other fighter daily options at that level. It only has to trigger twice to make it more damaging and it's an awful likely to trigger a lot more than twice. All that and it autokills minions and lasts for an entire encounter.

But, yeah are dailies supposed to be, of, say "Turning Point" quality or "Consecrated Ground" quality? Cause that's a pretty huge difference.

But then, you often set yourself up to a charge from the fighter and just end up next to him again. ;)

Cheers, LT.
