Yeah, as someone who generally didn't like much of 5e's art direction except for a few stuff (I recall 2016's Curse of Strahd art being pretty cool actually) this looks like it's trying to be bolder, and it's looking rather good.

It gives me a little hope in case the rumors on Dark Sun are true, because if they're actually going to revisit that setting they really can't afford an art style that looks too safe.

So we have confirmed:

  • Barovia
  • Borca
  • Falkovia
  • Innsmouth
  • Sithicus
  • Valachan
  • Lamordia
  • Hazlan
  • Har'Akir
  • Tepest (darklord art)
  • Kalakeri (darklord art)
  • Darkon (B&G map)
  • Mordent (B&G Map)

That's 13 confirmed. The ones from VGR not confirmed are Dementlieu, Bluetspur, Carnival, iCath, Kartakass, and Richemulot. If I was betting man, Dementleu, Kartakass, and Richemulot get the last three slots and Bluestpur, iCath and the Carnival sit this one out. It also means the only new domains are Innsmouth and Sithicus.

That, or they get relegated to the other domains category, or get a note to reference VGR

I just mean they probably won't get a feature and a statted Darklord. Which is fine; Carnival is barely a domain, Bluetspur is finicky to use beyond "flashback horror" and iCath is likewise all based around dreams. They are novel, but they feel one-trick. IMHO of course. Of course, I imagine they will reference back to VGR, especially with jiangshi being revealed in one of the polls.
