Recommendation for choice of weapon

Hypersmurf

Moderatarrrrh...
I'm looking at building a TWF character using a template that eliminates TWF and off-hand penalties, allowing full iterative attacks with each hand (SKR's two-headed mutant).

I'm not looking for debate on whether the template is broken or not :)

What I'm trying to decide is which weapon to specialise in to take best advantage of this feature.

I've narrowed it down to four:

1. Bastard Sword. 1d10 damage, no attack penalty, 1 feat required.

2. Monkey-Gripped Greatsword. 2d6 damage, -2 attack penalty, 1 feat required.

3. Monkey-Gripped Falchion. 2d4 damage, -2 attack penalty, 1 feat required, nasty threat range w/ Imp Crit and Keen.

4. Monkey-Gripped Duom. 1d8 damage, -2 attack penalty, 2 feats required, threatens 5' and 10' range.

(I'm ignoring Scythe, Spiked Chain, and Greataxe, 'cos I just can't picture it :) )

Bear in mind that I can't afford any Burst enhancements yet.

I'm unfamiliar with the template (WHICH IS BROK-- oh, never mind), does it bestow full Str damage with the off-hand weapon? If so, either the duoms or the falchions. Otherwise, perhaps the greatswords, but I'd probably still go with the duoms, if you're planning on using combat reflexes and opping people, or the falchions, because crit range is nifty.

Monkey gripped double sword in each hand?

...that one's just for Blackdirge. :-)

Don't know Blackdirge... but Shirt Guy John was asking about that some time in the last few days.

I think I'll pass, though... :-\

If you pick up Savage Species, there's always the barbed chain. It is a series of barbed metal rods (4-6) connected by chains. It's a exotic medium melee weapon that does 2d6 damage, with a 20/x2 critical. That seems to have quite a lot of style, IMHO.

Medium? Yeow!

But the DM doesn't have SS, and I don't expect it to show up in New Zealand for a few months yet.

Of course, personally I'd go for dual mercurial greatswords, but anway.....

And I'm against Mercurial weapons on principle :)

One other thing: Don't use Monkey Grip!

When you compare the average damage, its not a good idea.

Greatsword: 7.
Bastard Sword: 5.5.

Now, you take a -2 penalty to hit with the greatsword. If you used the bastard sword and Power Attack, you can take the same -2 penalty, and have an average damage of 7.5.
