Ritual transfer

If a caster in your group does a ritual transfer, can they transfer just part of a mod?

For example, if you had a +1 viscious sword, could you transfer just the viscious part
to a +2 sword, making it a +2 viscious sword? Or are the +1 and the viscious part altogether and would replace the +2?

Look at the gold difference and decide...

a +2 sword + a +1viscious sword is less expensive than a +2 viscious sword

No. You can only transfer the entire enchantment.

Though, as a DM, I'd be inclined to allow it - requiring the party to contribute the gold difference, of course.

In fact, it might turn out to be its own ritual that the party "discover" as they try to do it.

You could transfer +1 vicious to a nonmagical weapon of the desired type, then pay the difference to upgrade it to +2 vicious.
