Legend
I've run a few sessions now of Kobold Press' Riverbank. It captures the Wind in the Willows flavour really well. I'm scattering the games in amongst our other gaming, rather than running it regularly. Planning on slowly guiding the players through a year on the Riverbank.
What is quite fun, is players roll randomly from their four stats to use when approaching a task. They also may have approoriate traits to add. The "chaos" stat is Pother. If you fail and the Pother stat would have succeeded, it can be subbed in. But there will be consequences!
There's a timer (usually 30 minutes) and when it goes off, the GM draws from Haphazardly deck, which throws in a bit of extra chaos or challenge. Kind of like a gentler torch timer from Shadowdark, but my players groan just as much.
The stakes are low but my players are throwing themselves in, getting the mole child out of the tree, dealing with appalling relations, going on biking expeditions and digging for Roman artifacts.
Lovely mayhem. A delightful break from the usual monsters, traps or horror.
The game book does not have the best layout, but is easy to read and has a delightful sense of humour.
