Savage Species reincarnation

I'm a bit confused as to the official way to do reincarnation now with the Savage Species ruleset.

A Human Druid 5 IMC was killed and reincarnated as a Centaur.

The "transformation" example given talks about becoming a wererat, but I couldn't find the ECL and stats for wererat in the book, so couldn't really follow what they were saying. (I haven't had time to read the book and need to work this out by Sunday.)

Do you just add on racial modifiers? Does he become Druid 5/Centaur 6? Druid 5/Centaur 1 and then forced to take Centaur for 5 levels? How exactly does it work?

the druid in question would retain all class abilities, but his race effectively becomes centuar. this means he looses all benefits from his previous race but gains all the benefits of the centuar. for example ability scores, remove all the pluses and minuses of the old race, and now aply all the pluses and minuses of centuar. the druid in question would also pick up the ECL of the centuar, which i believe is somewhere around 2. which means he will be gaing levels slower than the rest of the party. just out of curiosity, where did you guys come up with centuar as his reincarnated form?

Not exactly-Only physical stats are modified. Int Wis and Cha are unaffected.

I'm not sure about this, but I don't think that the character's ECL changes when reincarnated. There's nothing about that in the main FAQ or the spell description. After all, they do not gain HD and may lose access to some abilities or at least the use of some items. "Damn hooves! I miss my boots of speed!"

Er, they probably rolled between 18 and 25 on the chart. :D

I like the idea of savage species "monster classes" as a means for handling reincarnation without nerfing the player (sorry, no new levels for the next 2 everyone else gets) or the other players (so, he's stronger and faster than all of you now. Your point is?). The possibility that someone gets reincarnated not as the full-blown creature, but rather one of appropriate level (possibly even 1 creature level). The PC then has the choice about whether to advance in creature levels or class levels.

Cool idea.

Yes even if it isn't "official" I am definitely thinking of giving levels of Centaur for the exact reasons you mention. It creates a problem otherwise.

Speaking of Reincarnate (I just wrote about my Halfling (Ex Human) Druid/Shifter).
What exactly do I lose and gain. The table only gives stats, not HD, not BAB, special abilites and so on.

Just as an example. Halflings gain a +1 bonus to all saves, and a +2 bonus to Fear. Humans gain one extra feat and 1 extra skill points per level.

If I change from human to halfling, do I only lose 2 points of Strength and gain 2 points of Dex? (by the table for reincarnation, even my size stays unchanged). Or do I also lose my extra skill points (from now on, since skill points do not change "retroactively")? Do I gain a +1 bonus to all saves?
