Our group consists of five people, two of us have work schedules that move between weekdays/weekends and mornings/afternoons basically each week. We play mostly self-contained adventures, each one to seven sessions long. The three more experienced players alternate as the GM each adventure to avoid burnout and give everyone the chance to play, as well as bring their ideas to the table.

We have been friends for around 20 years at this point. We play online and ONLY ever play when everyone is available - if it turns out that someone cannot make it on session day then it's tough luck, we cancel. As you can see, these are rather extreme (I believe) circumstances, given what others have said about their groups.

Scheduling is handled by me (I also happen to GM the most either because I want to or because my adventures are rather lengthy dungeon crawls) using the website whenavailable.com, mostly due to the fact that I found the tool and the moderation tools for the schedule are so bound to my account.

We usually do not have a problem playing at least once a month, two to three times per month if we are lucky. Most of the downtime between sessions is actually caused by the GM needing to prep before I even get the green light to start scheduling. The vast majority of time we play on Saturday or Sunday morning for three to four hours.
