A 3rd edition of Scion, the game where you play divine heroes, was announced, powered by the Storypath Ultra system.

During Onyx Path's online convention recently, a 3rd edition of Scion, the game where you play divine heroes, was announced, powered by the Storypath Ultra system.

In Scion, you play demigods--along the lines of Achilles, children of gods from a wide array of mythologies including Egyptian, Greek, Norse, and even the Cthulhu mythos and American folklore. Originally released by White Wolf in 2007, the 2nd edition came out in 2012.

Storypath Ultra currently powers Scion 2E, and is a cleaned up of the Storypath System, itself a variant of White Wolf's Storytelling System, which was based on the Storyteller system which powered the World of Darkness. I think I got that right. It uses a d10 dice pool and a range of mental, physical, and social attributes.

The announcement contained little else by way of information, including a release date, although Onyx Path did hint at a 'black sheep' scion type, which is not related to a pantheon, and some overhauls of areas of the games such as the Relic system.

I will always marvel at how this company does releases. Before Exalted 3e is done, Essence is released (sure, they can be separate, but still, odd to have two versions of same game in flight).

I am still getting releases from my Scion 2e kickstarter, and maybe before I get them all, 3e comes out...

it's fine i guess... just ... odd.

(I have my complaints with 2e, so maybe they do too and feel its strong reason enough to release a new version?)

IIRC Scion 1e used a variant of the Storyteller system, Scion 2e runs with Storypath and per the announcement 3e will run with Storypath Ultra.

Edit: Also I think you got it backwards. Storytelling system is the one developed for Old World of Darkness (Masquerade et al.) and Storyteller the one developed for New World (Chronicles) of Darkness (Requiem, et al)

Well, hopefuly this new version will fix problems from the current version. and they are plenty. That said, I am looking forward to when the gm restarts our campaign.

And yeah, also waiting on at least 2 books from their kickstarters. Seems the leadtime is around 2 years or more per book from the kickstarter.

This is a really strange release policy. Just last week Scion 2e went live on Demiplane, and now they announce 3e? Okay, looking at their release cycles, it will most likely be 2-3 years until Scion 3e is available publicly, but still...

I mean, COVID did wreck havoc with their release schedules. But yeah, Scion 3e sounds real quick, but they say that they are planning on a conversion guide, and I'm hoping with Storypath to Storypath Ultra not being too crazy of a change, that it will mean a lot of stuff can carry over.

I like their concepts, but find their release schedules to be untenable. It took 8 years for God 2E to come out and by the time it did, our game had ended and over half the group didn't even live in the same state anymore. I can't plan a game around that. I'm also worried that by the time God 3E comes out, it will be time to ramp up for 4E.
