Seeking Runequest Deluxe info...

I haven't taken a look at Runequest in twenty years. How does the latest edition look? The Deluxe version is an all-in-one book which I find attractive... Any opinions?

Mongoose's Runequest is a good system with a one caveat: as a GM, you're not afraid to adjudicate on the spot. There are some grey areas in the rules (read: it's not as codified as 3E). It can be a blessing for some GMs, a curse for others.

If you like the freedom bestowed upon you by the system, if you like to house-rule and make the system your own, if you like rather intuitive, rules-light systems, this is for you.

RuneQuest Deluxe combines the base rules, the Companion, and the Monster supplement. You've got all you need to start right away.

The Deluxe is quality stuff. System is simple (roll d100 under your skill ranking and you succeed), even streamlined from the BRP versions. Some people like having runes be physical objects that you hold, others don't. But if you don't like the whole rune magic system altogether, you can easily drop it without impacting the system. There are other alternate magic systems in the book and Erlic has another. Eratta and an update have already been incorporated. In short, I like it. (Plus its OGL if you're an OGL supporter.)

But if you're the kind of DM that needs a rule for every situation, ... this might not be the system for you. There's enough there where you can make an on the spot ruling or houserule stuff you need.

Mongoose has an srd for it up on their site. Easy to download it and check if the rules seem like something acceptable to you.
