Sell me on Bard's Gate

I'm a big fan of distinct city settings. My world includes Five Fingers, Sharn, the CSIO, Waterdeep, and Ptolus among others.

Sincere question here- Why would I want to add Bard's Gate to my world? And is the sourcebook itself a fun read?

Elijah Snow,

I'm reading through it now and the city really does feel like a first edition city, with all the associated warts. I also love city books and own quite a few across a number of different settings. Bard's Gate has nothing new, no interesting hook, no unique big bad character, certainly nothing like ptolus. If you're looking for a low to mid powered city on the edge of a wilderness that ties into existing necromancer games products it's not bad. Compared to the city books from the Scarred Lands or Midnight, it's very lightweight. I'd advise picking up one of the city books from the two aforementioned setttings before Bard's Gate.

Getting back to the book, a lot of it is character stats. I can't remember exactly, but the text on the city is about 110 pages, then some wilderrness stuff, two adventure areas, then crunch. I got the book very cheaply (Barnes and Noble had it at 70% over the holidays), so it was worth what I paid for it. I wouldn't buy it at full price.

Hstio,

Thanks for the honest feedback. I headed over to B&N.com and ordered Bard's Gate for $11.98 (pre-member discount). :D

I'm certain I can find a spot in the wilderness for it.
