I don't want curate anything. I want to offer an alternative to selling on the usual platform, with a different business model. I think a co-op with something like half DTRPGs % cost could be very doable. So, my comments above in hand, I do want a peer review process to help weed out AI and nonsense. Participating in the peer review would be part of membership.Past efforts to curate Shadowdark third party stuff has basically just been a list of the dozen or so most popular products and nothing more. I'm dubious that future efforts will do better.
The answer is for DTRPG to let people filter out AI slop, rather than just having publishers make a declaration. If you could easily search for only human-made stuff, that would solve the problem. And it's what DTRPG needs to do anyway.
One of my non-negotiable bits of this idea is a complete ban on AI generated text and images.I agree that dtrpg needs to filter out ai slop. But I also would like another source that does so already.
Well, we've already got several websites that amount to "here's Dungeon Damsel's stuff and here's Chubby Funster's stuff, the end," which leaves out literally thousands of human-made products.I don't want curate anything. I think that there's some juice in collecting the really good 3PP stuff in one place. I know how that sounds, but it's still probably a good idea. I was thinking maybe something in a peer review process to keep out the AI and riffraff.Well, we've already got several websites that amount to "here's Dungeon Damsel's stuff and here's Chubby Funster's stuff, the end," which leaves out literally thousands of human-made products.
If enough manpower is involved, this project could easily evolve beyond that, though.
I think the previous efforts have been people hoping it would either be a lot easier to assemble the listings, or give them more social media clout than it did.
If nothing else, you won't have the spelling errors, grammar and general snarkiness of Bryce Lynch at 10 Foot Pole.I think that there's some juice in collecting the really good 3PP stuff in one place. There is so much slop on DTRPG it's not even funny, and I don't just mean AI generated stuff. My idea about peer review was something based on necessity, not desire. If nothing else, you won't have the spelling errors, grammar and general snarkiness of Bryce Lynch at 10 Foot Pole.
Hey, I honestly intend to go back and redo my first adventure. It's just been a busy year! There is so much slop on DTRPG it's not even funny
OMG, I look at some of my published stuff and I ache for a big red felt-tipped marker. Perils of the job.Hey, I honestly intend to go back and redo my first adventure. It's just been a busy year!
I don't think there should be a ban, but I think it is reasonable to demand disclosure. One of my non-negotiable bits of this idea is a complete ban on AI generated text and images.
