This is pretty awesome, a living world in 2 pages.
Fragile Civilizations, p 48-49
ah ok, I did read this one, I just wouldnt call it faction mechanic at all, thats why I stumbled here. Its a world event system in my eyes. Two of the 10 event type are called faction events (internal and external factions) and some other events have nothing to do at all with factions like Disease and Disaster. So its definitely more general than that. I thought I missed some faction / "fronts" like ideas in the book .Fragile Civilizations, p 48-49
Part of the confusion is that I was using faction there more in the sense of faction turn that to index that it was just factions. This sounded negative, but I definitely like this event system to have stuff keep happening to the world, I also like the urgency system. I wanted to do an elaborate faction/fronts system in my open world game (which I put on hold until Western Reaches release), but I think it might be too much and too complicated. A good random event system like this might be just easier, at least if the players are not dabbling too much in the politics. If the players want to delve into the politics more such a system might be a bit too simple and random and I might introduce fronts with goals and assets back again.
For those who don't Discord, I'm also going to run my blog old school. District 77. Same content, no discord invite needed.
I'm toying with some alternate luck rules for SD, based on the Willpower mechanic from Fleaux!, which is essentially a usage die that does more or less the same thing, but there are penalties if the die runs out. Does stepping that die up sound about as cool as getting a luck token? Obvious UD indexes a busier resource economy, but that's kind of what I'm aiming for.
