The Carnival is discussed in Van Richten's and briefly discusses how it's originally from the Feywild and switched places with a Ravenloft carnival, which is the one in Wild Beyond the Witchlight.
I dont have a group now so I dont read a lot of RPGs these days. But think that if I did I might do something in the carinival.
The Witchlight Carnival in the opening chapter of that adventure (and the free prelude on DMs Guild that, IMO, really ought to be included in the book) are channeling Something Wicked This Way Comes vibes.
I looked on DMsguild but didnt see it, is this it?

Saw something wicked this way comes in the theater when it came out. Wow 1983, didnt think it was that long ago.
you probably want Heckna! from Hit Point Press
Again looked but didnt see it, mightve only been free for a short time.

This is the prelude. It lets you roleplay one of the two hooks for the campaign, of losing something intrinsic to your character as children.

(The other hook is "your party warlock's archfey patron needs help," which means your warlock player needs to be OK with their patron being Iggwilv.)

Yep, it's back up to $30. It being free was kind of weird, honestly, given that it was a big successful crowdfunding campaign.

How much is 5E mechanics as opposed to descriptive text? If it's more setting than mechanics I might spring for the hardcover.
It's a 294-page adventure (which is huge, given that it's set at a single carnival), with 99% of the mechanics running from page 214 through 276. If you are comfortable making up or adapting mechanics for your preferred system, it's pretty portable. I could definitely do it in Shadowdark, although I think Mork Borg might be a better fit.

That's followed by an 9-page glossary of the Gobbledygook language that the magical carnies use and two pages on of the symbols used by those trying to escape the carnival. They expect some groups to go deep in this campaign.

Thanks. One of my players is in the process of selling his house and buying another so our game is on hiatus until Monday July 6th. Another player in our group is going to run a 2024 5E Darksun campaign for a while so I have time to decide what I want to do next. Maybe after playing 5E again, I might like it more than I did in the past but I really want to try Nimble RPG so I may port over to that. As the player moving is looking at property about 45 minutes to an hour away I have a feeling that he wont be able to play as much as he says he will, if that happens then I dont see the game lasting unless I can find another player or two.
